In the world of digital marketing, we all live or die by our metrics. It’s sad, but true. So now you know that’s reality, and it will never change (except the metric itself), get over it and get with it.

The life of metrics has been a staple in digital marketing for quite some time. It’s no longer new. However, it is constantly changing and the frequency of the stream of your metrics provides greater accuracy and trending data. Without the stream and without the accuracy means as a marketer you’re just taking a guess. In other words, you’re shooting in the dark, and you also have your eyes closed at the same time. Yikes!

Here are a few facts published by that may shock you:

  • 80% of your online visitors will watch a video (20% will actually read content). Source: Digital Sherpa
  • 75% Of Users Visit The Marketer’s Website After Viewing A Video. Source: Digital Sherpa
  • Your website is 50 times more likely to appear on page one of a SERP if it includes video. Source: Digital Sherpa

“The content distribution landscape is evolving so rapidly that what is cutting-edge today could be defined as “traditional” by next year. Since the early days of television, people have expected their programming to be delivered in segments that were periodically interrupted by chunks of corporate messaging. However, the prevailing video content model is currently undergoing a striking transformation.” –

It’s no secret video has become a secret weapon for marketers, but what is the real reason behind that? Just when you thought social media and responsive design was supposed to be on your top list of to-do items for your marketing team, video has crashed the party and is demanding more attention.

“In February of this year, 70 percent of videos were uploaded directly to Facebook, as opposed to being links back to YouTube.”    – Tim McMullen, iMediaConnection

Although metrics are fantastic and a marketing team could not survive without them, the quantitative analysis (metric) without the qualitative (context) added to it is really just a number that has no reference point as it relates to your customer and your brand offerings. However, if you are an infographic junkie like me and love to see the numbers to come to life, check out what Siliconrepublic produced. It’s candy for the mind and the eyes for us marketers!
