Can you imagine if marketing around the world was only words and not design? Every marketing campaign, regardless of its origin; on the web, your phone, in print and email, on TV, digital, billboards, you name it, wherever it was, all you saw was words. I am going to take this one step further. There is no design applied to anything, anywhere. What? No design? Yep, no design.

Many people fail to appreciate how psychologically compelling design is.

Quantum Physics is pretty darn difficult to understand, especially for those of us with creative brains. However, I just can’t imagine marketing without design. That is a much harder pill to swallow. I actually think I would have an easier time learning Quantum Physics than I would trying to adapt to a world without images and carefully crafted brand messaging.

A beautiful and evocative series of images can delineate brand, product and service message quite effectively if well composed.

Without design there is no creativity, at least in the visual sense anyway. Remove all colors, pictures, logos, and imagery, style and, well you guessed it, remove everything visual. Yes, I did say everything visual… save the words. The words you have left you are only allowed to use one font – one-way – one color… all the time. This sounds like a marketers nightmare. I am not sure what I would do if all the wonderful creative things I did were all trashed and I had to re-do them with this concept in mind.

Maybe when the world ends this will happen. Or, maybe when: computers die, Apple goes out of business, Adobe starts making plungers instead of software, Starbucks stops making coffee and Google decides the web is not a worthy business model any longer.

There is hope. If you can figure out what this word means (Ngised), … we just may have hope that there are enough creative brains in this world to save us all from complete and utter boredom. Until then, bring on the creativity!
