As a modern marketer it’s my job to understand the digital landscape and how it changes. Being immersed in digital means marketing teams must pay attention to every little blip on the radar screen, even if it may not currently alter how we execute our marketing strategy. However, those little blips we see and sometimes don’t see can eventually turn into tidal waves of change that cause us to think totally different. Consequently, we may find ourselves scrambling to create a new digital strategy that will be more effective in attracting and keeping new customers.

Each of the facts below where once a blip on the radar screen. Some people didn’t even pay any attention to them because they were just too new and the value wasn’t proven. Yes, even the Internet in its infancy didn’t get the attention it does today. Fast forward to 2015. Each of these facts is substantiated by research and now marketers just can’t ignore them any longer.

6 Facts Marketers Can’t Ignore

Take a look at how mobile, internet, digital radio, display ads, mobile video ads, retail indoor positioning and Millennials on smartphones and tablets have caused everyone to take notice – now!

  • 60% of internet searches are mobile (Source: Mobilecause)
  • Digital radio and photos now generate 96% of their total engagement from mobile devices (Source: comScore)
  • Up to 50% of clicks on mobile banners are accidental.  (Source: GoldSpot Media)
  • 62% of smartphone users are “ok with 15-30 second ads” in exchange for video content (Source: ReelSEO)
  • By 2017, 70% of the largest retailers will use indoor positioning systems, combined with mobile apps (Source: Gartner)
  • 90% of Millennials have purchased something using a smart phone or tablet (Source: BuzzReport)

Now when your boss asks you for some insight on some of today’s digital trends, you can provide them with a little something to chew on. Let’s just say that the only thing that isn’t changing in the marketing and digital world is change itself.
